I chose this topic because I wanted to know how one piece of trash could effect water.
Marine Dumping by Abigail
What is Marine Dumping ?
Imagine you are a piece of trash. Then you get dropped on the sidewalk. Next a huge storm comes and washes you into a river. Right now you are floating in the water. Over the whole week you are floating in that water. Then another storm comes and washes you downstream into the ocean. That’s called Marine Dumping. Dumping sewage in the has always been considered the cheapest and easiest way to dispose waste. Marine Dumping is when garbage ends up in the ocean. Animals can eat it. They can get caught in it. That is what this piece of writing is about. What does Marine Dumping lead to ?
Causes of Marine Dumping
Here are some causes of Marine Dumping. Littering are one of the main causes when you litter your trash ends up in the ocean. Also when you build near the ocean dirt and other ruble can end up in the ocean. Fertilizers and pesticides can end up in the ocean and kill animals. Sewage pipes that lead to the ocean can let sewage into the ocean. These causes can lead to major effects.
Effects from Marine Dumping
Sea turtle who is stuck in a ghost net.
Pelican who has garbage stuck in it.
Marine Dumping can spoil the food chain. A tiny fish eats a small piece of plastic and gets sick. Then a bigger fish comes and eats the tiny fish then that fish gets sick too. That's called a spoiled food chain. Did you know that 1 million seabirds died because of Marine Dumping. 1,000 dolphins died too. It can kill millions of animals in one year!( I think). Animals can eat the garbage. For example, a sea turtle can mistake a Ziplock bag for a jellyfish and eat it. A pelican can mistake a patch of garbage for a shoal of fish and dive into it. Then the pelican will have a piece of garbage stuck on it. What are some solutions ?
Solutions
Someone picking up garbage.
Map of garbage patches.
Garbage Island is a huge patch of garbage. It is very dangerous to every ocean animal. Animals can get caught and die in it. The Pacific Garbage patch ( which is garbage island) is twice the size of Texas. It is 9 feet deep. It weighs 7 million tons! We don’t want our ocean to look like the Great Pacific Garbage Patch do we? To stop animals from getting killed you can save water, don’t litter and so on. We can also throw away our trash. Recycling will help too. Do your part to help.
Conclusion
In conclusion Marine Dumping is a very terrible kind of pollution. It leads to animals death. A piece of trash can get eaten by a fish. Then you can catch that fish and eat it. After that, you might get sick to. We don’t want that to happen. There are many causes and effects on Marine Dumping. There is also a variety of solutions.
