Why did I chose urban development? I chose Urban development because, I wanted to know how much urban development could pollute water and how I can help and also how my friends and family can help stop urban water pollution.
Urban Water Pollution
By: Boone R. Pittman
Think of a city, it’s causing water pollution. Do you know that cities cause water pollution? A city is an urban area and it’s not letting runoff from nearby streams soak into the ground. Urban development is causing many more terrible problems, like, rapid and uncontrolled urbanization (urban development) and unsustainable development.
Why does urban development cause water pollution? Urbanization is a process where by populations move from a rural to an urban areas, allowing cities and towns to grow. It can also be termed as the increase of the number of people living in town and cities.
Urban areas cause runoff not to be able to soak into the ground. It also does not let groundwater gets to bodies of water by contaminating it. Also, some people in urban locations just waste water, for example they take very long showers or run water when brushing their teeth or throwing trash on the ground.
Why is the problem happening?
Impervious surfaces like roads, parking lots, and rooftops prevent rain and snowmelt from soaking into the ground. Also, when people build buildings, and if it rains, the rainwater can get contaminated before it reaches the ground. This causes, the ground water to be contaminated When runoff from nearby streams get onto urban areas it picks up all the trash and litter, and it goes into streams and pollutes water even more.
Solutions!
We should ask the government to put more drains by urban areas. Why? Because stormwater would pick up all the litter and trash and it would go into the water without storm drains. We should also ask them to make more natural places like parks and plant more plants and flowers by urban locations. There are many ways to pollute, and urban pollution is a big problem, it’s causing less water, and it needs to stop. So follow the rules, and help your community. Stop polluting water and save the earth!!
