I chose sewage and wastewater because I wanted to know what sewage and wastewater was. Also I wanted to learn how sewage and wastewater causes water pollution.
Sewage And Wastewater
By: James Davis Blackburn
Did you know people flush air fresheners, books, bras, cellphones, clothing, diapers, dead pets, pets, flosses, explosives, glasses, fireworks, fruit, glue, guns, hair, fur, hair brushes, hunting decoys, jewelry, keys, light bulbs, money, paint, paper, perfume, bottles, poison, rags, remote controls, rocks, balloons, shoes, teeth, toothbrushes, toothpaste, toys, watches and wet wipes down the toilet? I know what you are thinking: it’s crazy that people flush these unnecessary things down the toilet!!! If you want to learn more, read on!
Sewage pollutes water because when sewage goes into water sources it is hot, so it creates life more quickly, and the new life cuts off all of the oxygen. Then all of the life dies and makes room for tiny microorganisms that don’t need oxygen to survive, and they give off a scent that smells and also pollutes the water. That’s why sewage and wastewater causes water pollution. Also, sometimes when people throw trash away the trash gets into the sewers and it leads into freshwater sources. Then we can’t drink that water.
Sewage and wastewater can be cleaned and used more than one time. The Emory water hub is a greenhouse that does not use greenhouse gas. It reuses wastewater from toilets, washing machines, sinks and more. They clean the water and send it through the pipes to be used again. We need more places like the Emory water hub. In conclusion, to stop sewage and wastewater pollution we can encourage people to stop flushing extra things down the toilet.
