I chose Marine dumping because I really wanted to help the problem. Also because it sounded cool.
Water Pollution and Marine Dumping
By Marty Weintraub
Imagine you're a fish and you really want food, and you see something and you think it’s food, but is not. It’s a piece of trash, and you eat it, and then you die! People throw trash in the ocean on purpose. Also people throw trash in the trash can and it doesn't make it to the the landfill, and instead goes to the ocean. Sometimes boats dump trash too. When people leave trash on the beach it goes into the ocean.
Did you know more than 3,000 tons of pollution gets in the ocean in two days? Well, it happens. There is a place in the Pacific Ocean that is an island and it is only trash. One quarter of the Pacific trash island has about 400,000 pieces of trash!!! Also the Pacific trash island is twice the size of Texas. That’s huge!
Marine dumping is dangerous because trash in the ocean can cause animals to get sick. Also if people go in polluted water they might get a disease, and that won’t be good at all. Marine dumping can destroy animal habitats and kill animals. If you go fishing and you catch a fish that has been in a polluted area, and then you eat the fish, you might get sick or die.
We can stop polluting!!! We can go into the ocean and get a lot of trash out or as much as we can. We can tell the government to make the Clean Water Act a stricter law than it is. (The Clean Water Act is a law that should make people and factories not release pollution.) We can stop walking past trash on the street and pick the trash up because if you don’t then it will go in the ocean and that will pollute. Another way is to help pick up trash not just on your neighborhood but on other neighborhoods too. Marine dumping is horrible. I hope you will not throw trash in the ocean ever again.
