Septic-Tanks and Sewage by Olivia
What are septic tanks? What is sewage?
What is a septic tank?
A septic tank is a machine that takes all the grey water and breaks up all the sewage from the toilet.
What is sewage?
Sewage is the stuff in a septic tank. Sewage is waste.Sewage caries harmful bacteria and chemicals that can cause serious health problems. Pathogens are known as a common water pollutant the sewers of city houses several pathogens and theatby dieses.
Sewage Problems
Sewage disposal is a major problem in developing countries. As many people in these areas don’t have access to sanitary conditions or clean water. Untreated sewage from a property flows into the septic tank and the solids are separated from the liquid. If sewage leaks from a septic tank it can get into are pipes and not get treated that's bad. Too much sewage in the water can cause bacteria to use up all the oxygen leaving almost none for the other sea animals. Water pollution can cause diseases to get into humans.
Sewage is the term used for wastewater that often contains faeces urine and laundry waste. There are billions of people on earth so treating sewage is a big priority. Biological processes are used to help degrade the solid materials. The liquid then flows out of the tank into a land drainage system and the remaining solids are filtered. Sewage is treated in water treatment plants and the waste is often disposed into the sea. In developed countries sewage often causes problems when people flush chemicals down the toilet. Untreated sewage water in such areas can contaminate the environment.Sewage is one of the leading causes of water pollution. Contamination of drinking water sources by sewage can occur from raw sewage overflow septic tanks land application of sludge and partially treated wastewater. The greatest threats posed to water resources arise from contamination by bacteria, nitrates, and metals. Seepage overflow into drinking water sources can cause disease from the ingestion of microorganisms such as E coli , Giardia , cryptosporidium & Hepatitis also helminths.
Septic tanks
Some water hubs have septic tanks. Septic tanks are huge machines that holds waste a septic tank crunches up all the waste in the machine. If a septic tank ever leaks near you you are in big trouble. Every home toilet is connected to septic tank usually located outside the house. Each time poop is flushed down the toilet it goes into the tank where the solid part is separated from the from the liquid part. Biological processes are used to break down the solids and the liquid is usually drained out into a land drainage system. From this stage it can escape into the soil and nearby water bodies. Septic tanks contaminate 1% of the nation's usable aquifers. Treatment of waste in septic tanks occurs by bacterial decomposition . High density placement of tanks as in suburban areas can result in regions containing very high concentrations of wastewater.
Sewage and wastewater
Every day, we cook, do laundry , flush the toilet, wash our cars, do laundry shower and do many things that use water. Think about how we use water in schools, hospitals and public places.where does liquid waste, poop and urine end up? In many developed communities wastewater and sewage is treated cleaned and dumped into the sea or river. Even though they are treated they are never the same as fresh water. In some not developed countries the sewage is not treated but quickly dumped into the sea or water bodies. This is very dangerous. In the u.s.a. We clean our water but in other countries they don't clean their water. that can spread to are ocean. That's why we try to get them to clean their water. Sewage is one of the leading causes of water pollution.
Raw sewage
Storm water systems in urban areas are sometimes combined with sanitary sewer systems in route to sewage treatment plants. According to the EPA approximately 20% of the population is served by combined systems.
Diseases
Microorganisms in water are known to be causes of some very deadly diseases and become the breeding grounds for other creatures that act like carriers. These carriers inflict these diseases via various forms of contact onto a individual. A very common example of this process would be Malaria.
Closing
Remember its very bad for sewage to get into are ocean. Sewage can hurt animals and they could die. Sewage can hurt humans in many different ways. For example some people get water from a lake and they don't clean the water. There could be sewage in that lake the humans who drank that water could get sick. If one part of the ocean is polluted then that little spot could spread. Every single source of water is connected.
