I chose to research oil spills because I didn't know a lot about oil spills and how bad they were.

Oil Spills
What is an oil spill?
An oil spill can happens when a leaking pipe or a truck breaks and the oil gets on the ground and when it rains the oil on the ground goes into the sewer pipe and into our water and sometimes our water can taste awful.
Why do oil spills happen?
The problem is when people work at this place called oil rig they bring in oil. Sometimes there's a oil well that gets oil from the very bottom of the ocean but when the oil well breaks all of that oil goes into the ocean and all the oil can harm animals or worse. And when the oil spills out a explosion can happen and some or all can get hurt. People have to clean it all up before it gets too far. So they have to be really careful. And the responsible thing to do is to stop the oil from reaching shore.
What is done to clean up oil spills?
Dispersants are like tiny bugs that eat the oil. Dispersants help clean up the oil by eating it. They are helping with biodegradation. Before the oil soaks in too far, kitty litter can clean the oil up. Kitty litter can absorb the oil recently spilled. Booms can keep the oil from spreading out. A skimmer collects the oil on the top of the water.
What can we do to stop oil spills?
We can try to stop using oil so much because we use electricity with oil to save power. We also stop driving a lot because that takes up some of the oil too. We could also be careful with our job called oil rig. They have to be very careful with the oil. Leaking oil pipes can get into the water but people can fix pipes. We can also stop using a lot of plastic. And all those problems we can fix.

Oil Spills
- SPLASH!!! Do you hear that? If you do, it is just someone pouring oil outside. But people throw oil in oceans, rivers, and lakes too. I don't like when people pollute. Do you know where oil comes from? It comes from the bottom of the oceans.
