I chose to study chemical fertilizers and pesticides because I really like gardening and I was trying to make one. But, I was scared to get harmful chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Because I new that some of them were harmful but I didn't quite know which ones. So now I do.

Chemical Fertilizers and Pesticides Cause Water Pollution
Most people think that fertilizers are just to help plants grow. But, the fact is that the fertilizers and pesticides don’t just stay on the plants. They soak into the soil. Then once it hits the groundwater it carries the chemicals sometimes for miles. Then the chemicals usually contaminate other plants. BOOM CRASH a puff of SMOKE suddenly all the water turns a light green color because of chemical fertilizers and pesticides.
What are chemical Fertilizers and Pesticides
Chemical fertilizers are chemicals that have nutrients(food) that help plants grow but People should use more Eco-friendly things like compost which has things like leaves, bark, egg shells, and sometimes paper and fruit. Now let's go to pesticides. Pesticides are chemicals that kill bugs that's why they are called pesticides but again people should try to use more Eco-friendly things. For example, if you are trying to get rid of mosquitoes you could try to dump out water around your house. Or if you are trying to get rid of ants you can dig up their mound (be careful!).
How do Chemical Fertilizers and Pesticides Cause Water Pollution
According to fertilizer Fact Sheet, the problem is that everybody uses too much fertilizer and pesticides on lawns and gardens that don’t need it. After the fertilizers and pesticides wash off into storm drains they leak through pipelines into lakes, streams, creeks, and oceans. This also happens when people use too much fertilizer or apply it at the wrong time. Then just like in your lawn or garden the fertilizers will help plants grow, grow and grow on the bottom of the lake, river, or stream. Bacteria can form and come to eat all of the plants that grew on the bottom of the lake. After that happens, the bacteria takes up all the oxygen in the water and all the fish and other things that cleaned our water die. Though fertilizers contain chemicals that are good for lawns and gardens when used properly, a lot or too much fertilizers and pesticides put on lawns and gardens can wash off and pollute streams, lakes, and rivers. When people use too much fertilizers and pesticides the environment can get hurt!!
Why are People Polluting Water With Fertilizers + Pesticides
People are polluting H2O because people don’t know what will happen if they spray fertilizer and pesticides on their lawn, gardens, or fields. What happens when people spray is… People pollute when they think all the fertilizers and pesticides stay in or on the plants. Also when the fertilizers and pesticides soak into the soil and pollute the groundwater.
What can we do help?
We can help by telling family and friends (Especially if they are gardeners!) to not use a bunch of fertilizers and pesticides on their lawns or gardens and just let their plants grow on their own. We can also write notes, letters, and put up posters to show what will happen if chemical fertilizers and pesticides get into our water and pollute the water. Please, tell family and friends to use very little to NO fertilizers or pesticides and you should do the same. I hope people will soon stop using chemical fertilizers and pesticides and our environment will get healthier.
